As we begin a new year for DE-DC-MD ASFAA, which is also recognized as Tri-State, our
industry is facing vast changes. During the last year we have witnessed changes by the
government in the areas of student lending which resulted in colleges reevaluating
lender lists, lenders making decisions about lending policies and the current
implementation of increased Stafford loan limits. The ACG/SMART and TEACH programs
present new challenges for the financial aid office as we read through regulations.
Many are concerned about the impact on the student. Hopefully, we have reached a
point of stability. As we move forward, our concentration can once again return to
serving the student, providing them with awareness and accessibility. How will this
happen? Financial Aid Professionals will do what we do best; we will give of ourselves
to help students achieve their dreams.
Tri-State is here to help provide tools such as training, communication, leadership
and networking. Workshops, Neophyte training and the annual Fall Conference give each
level of professional an opportunity to grow for the purpose of serving our students.
The Executive Board has taken the initiative to make our membership and training
events affordable. Membership will remain at $40 per member, with Neophyte training
fee held at $500. The Fall Conference fee will be reduced to $210 per member.
An important part of our organization is volunteers who serve on committees so that
Tri-State can serve its membership to its full capacity. We need your help in order to
be successful. In the next few weeks, requests will be made to fill the committees
with members who want to make a difference. Volunteerism is the first step for members
to fill leadership roles within their offices and Tri-State.
