Greetings From The Maryland Committee!

Submitted by: Nasim Keshavarz

It has been an absolute pleasure serving on Tri-State as Maryland President for the past two years. I must first thank the members who volunteered all their time and efforts. This list contains past and present members:

Stephanie Bender - Howard CC
Brittany Benton - CCBC Essex
Laura Boesler - JHU
Rhonda McLaren-Scott - Montgomery College
Beth McSweeney - PNC Bank
Karen Price - University of Baltimore
Pat Shoemaker - Anne Arundel CC

The Maryland Committee has worked very hard the past two years, and I would like to highlight the many events we hosted and/or actions:

2008-2009

  • Maryland Food Bank Event - boxed food for Maryland residents waiting for food stamps
  • Maryland Food Bank Event - assisted Orioles Wives Club collecting money at Orioles game
  • Helped Orioles Wives Club raise over $30,000
  • Networking Event at Bowl America in Glen Burnie, Maryland
  • Coordinated High School Guidance Counselor Workshop at four sites: Alleghany College with Garrett College, CCBC - Essex, Harford Community College with Cecil College, and Wor-Wic CC
  • Switched to online registration for Guidance Counselor Workshop
  • Volunteered and answered questions from viewers watching "You Can Afford College" at Maryland Public TV
  • Coordinated Bill 2 Law Day in Annapolis

2009-2010

  • Networking Event at Bowl America in Glen Burnie, Maryland
  • Coordinated (newly changed name) School Counselor Workshop at five (increased by one for 09-10) sites: Alleghany College with Garrett College and Frostburg State University, Chesapeake College, CCBC - Essex, Harford Community College with Cecil College, and Hood College
  • Continued online registration for School Counselor Workshop
  • Volunteered and answered questions from viewers watching "You Can Afford College" at Maryland Public TV
  • MPT recorded a new "You Can Afford College" video

I want to highlight the committee and the many accomplishments:

  • Tri-State Committee of the Year for 2008-2009
  • Tri-State Volunteer of the Year to Pat Shoemaker for 2008-2009
  • Tri-State Volunteer of the Year to Beth McSweeney for 2008-2009
  • Tri-State Service Award to Pat Shoemaker for 2009-2010
  • EASFAA 2009 Outstanding State Representative to Nasim Keshavarz

Once again, I cannot thank the current and past members of Maryland Committee enough! It has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my professional career. I want to thank the membership for allowing me this opportunity and allowing for unforgettable experiences and relationships created in both Tri-State and EASFAA. I know Pat Shoemaker will do an AMAZING job as the new Maryland President.
