Greetings from
Maryland Committee I hope everyone had a great start to the 2008-2009 academic year. The Maryland committee has been busy preparing for our fall events! The 2008-2009 Maryland Committee started off the year with a Volunteer Event at the Maryland Food Bank on Saturday, July 12. We packed boxes of “emergency” food for the Department of Social Services. Each box contained items like pasta sauce, noodles, crackers, peaches, beans, tuna, peanut butter, and powdered milk, just to name a few! We filled three large palettes full of food!
Thank you to the following Tri-State members for participating:
Just to name some of the other volunteers:
We had a second volunteer event with the Maryland Food Bank from August 22 through August 24 at the Orioles games! As volunteers, in conjunction with the Orioles Wives Organization and the MD Food Bank, we helped raise over $30,000! Local TV stations, specifically WJZ-13, assisted with the fundraiser. Our very own Tom Patterson from Loyola College snapped a photo with WJZ-13 Reporter, Mike Schuh.
All our events with the Maryland Food Bank have been a success! Our Fall/Winter Festival Networking Event will be in early December. We will be hosting a holiday bowling event at Bowl America in Glen Burnie! In November/December, we will be hosting High School Guidance Counselor Workshops at various locations throughout the State of Maryland. We may host a webcast for those counselors who are unable to attend. Other events slated for 2008-2009 include Bill 2 Law Day, Spring Networking Event, and a Spring Volunteer Event. You Can Afford College with Maryland Public Television does not have a set date; however, we will send a message through the listserv with more details. Greetings from
