Office News

Sometimes it is hard to keep track of our colleagues. With one promotion or retirement, it seems like half the members of TriState could be in a new job. Help the membership stayed informed of these staff changes by notifying News & Views.

Academic Finance Corporation

AFC Welcomes Suzanne Angheloni, formerly of PNC, and Stacey Stamey, formerly of American Education Services, to its lender team!

Allegany College of Maryland

Four staff members received promotions at Allegany College of Maryland effective January 1, 2007. Vicki Smith was promoted to Director of Student Financial Aid. She has a Bachelor’s Degree from Shepherd College and Master’s Degree from Frostburg State University. Karen Brady was promoted to Assistant Director of Student Financial Aid. Karen has a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree from Frostburg State University. Ann Allen was promoted to Coordinator of Campus-Based Programs. Ann has a Bachelor’s Degree from Wilmington College. Meghan Palumbo was promoted to Student Loan Counselor and comes to Allegany with a Bachelor’s Degree from Towson University. The four have over 43 years combined full and part-time service in financial aid and a total of 52 years of service to the college. The personnel moves were occasioned by the December retirement of financial aid director Cindy Harbel.

Citizens Bank

Citizens Bank welcomes Matthew (Matt) Coffey as an Account Executive to its Education Finance team. Before joining Citizens, Matt worked at Georgetown University. Matt describes his first experience vending at the Spring Conference.

“I enjoyed my first TriState conference as a Vendor. Although it was different being there in a different capacity, it was still nice to see old friends and contacts from the schools and vendors. I look forward to seeing everyone again in Cambridge this fall.”

Citizens also congratulates Jennifer Bastos on her promotion. Jennifer is now a Regional Sales Manager for the South Atlantic Region, serving the states of Delaware, Maryland, D.C., and Virginia.

Mapping Your Future

Mapping Your Future announces the election of Paula Carlson, senior vice president of Education Assistance Commission (EAC), to the Mapping Your Future (MYF) Board of Directors. Paula has been a member of Mapping Your Future’s Steering Committee since 1997. She led the Mapping Your Future Path to Independence Team, as well as other business planning efforts, and she received the MYF Excellence Award in 2002 (individual award) and again in 2006 (team award).

PNC Bank

PNC Bank welcomes Beth McSweeny as a Campus Relations Manager. Beth describes her transition to the “other” side.

”Before coming to PNC in January, I worked as a Financial Aid Counselor at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, for nearly seven years. The view from the "other side of the table" is different, and considering all that is occurring right now in our industry, probably more than we would have normally expected. The TriState financial aid community are a fantastic bunch of folks, so I have felt very welcome, despite the fact that I'm now coming from a different perspective than before. It was very interesting to attend my first conference as a lender this spring after having been a part of TriState for almost 10 years. There are still a few people "out there" who didn't know I'm no longer at a school, so it was a chance to talk with old friends about new experiences. Again, I have felt that all of our colleagues, both in schools and those who work for the vendors, have been very warm and encouraging, but knowing the people who are a part of TriState, that really doesn't surprise me in the least.”
