Professional Development & Training
Submitted by: Andrea Cipolla & Angie Hovatter, Co-Chairs

Winter has been very busy and spring isn’t slowing us down. The Professional Development & Training (PD&T) Committee has coordinated 3 events since the last newsletter. The Winter Office Workshop in December, the Verification Workshop in March, and the Spring Conference in April were all a huge success.

Of course the weather didn’t want to cooperate for Winter Office Workshop, but the participants that were able to make it felt it was very informative and they had a great time. The Spring Conference was held on April 6, 2006 at a new location, the Sheppard Pratt Conference Center. Overall, members responded positively to the location and the sessions. It was difficult to cram so much information in one day, but, in the end, it worked out.

As I said, PD&T has not taken a break. We are currently planning for a Diversity/Leadership workshop in early June and then the Summer Office Workshop in late June.

See you at the next event!

College Goal Sunday
Submitted by: Cissy VanSickle, Chair

Despite the cancellation of nine sites due to inclement weather, College Goal Sunday managed to assist 452 students and parents with completion of the FAFSA both on paper and on the web. We had four new sites this year with: Education Based Latino Outreach (EBLO), Baltimore City Community College, and the addition of two new sites in Western Maryland at Frostburg and Garrett.

Two of the sites, Allegany College of Maryland and Garrett College, held the event on Thursday instead of Sunday and it proved to be most successful. Schools who had to cancel the event due to weather, offered one-on-one help during office hours to anyone who needed it.

The committee continues to look at opportunities to improve this event for the future. Thank you to all the TriState members and school personnel who gave their time to this project.
