Five "Did You Know's?"
Did you know that…
-
On October 10, 1969 our professional association was
formed at a meeting held at Prince Georges Community College.
-
Our professional association was first constituted
as the “District
of Columbia - Maryland Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators” – a
two state association;
-
The first president of The Association was Dr. Palmer
Hopkins, then Director of Financial Aid at the University of Maryland,
College Park. The
first vice-president was Mr. Maurice Heartfield, then Director of Financial
Aid at George Washington University, Martha Julie from Trinity College
was the first secretary, and Ray Cogdell was elected the first treasurer
from
Federal City College (now merged with U.D.C.).
-
Col. Gerry Allen (Retired) then Director of Financial
Aid at the University of Delaware became a member of the DC-MD ASFAA
at the 1971-72 Fall Meeting
and was the first professional from Delaware to join the association.
-
At the 1972 Fall meeting, the DC-MD ASFAA membership
voted to allow Delaware to officially become the third state to join
the association and
the name was changed to DE-DC-MD ASFAA. The order of the states in
the name was decided by alphabetical preference (DE-DC-MD ASFAA).
